Nitin Gupta thank you for your response. I mark my confusion on the paper. Cooperative network consider relay to enhance the reliability. In contrast, there is always one common terminology that, we can coordinate our nodes by doing coordination among them. And synchronization is one the form of coordination.

Is Cooperation act on the physical layer? and coordination on the MAC layer?

I agree with @Nitin Gupta, there is ambiguity, now Tania, what you are saying makes sense, with a two layers scheme for:

-operation

-supervision and control

You feed the operation layer with status data, and the supervision/control layer gives commands as output.

Cooperation/coordination can mean under this scheme:

-gathering parameters from several sub-systems (nodes) acting separately towards a single federated goal

-splitting tasks across the sub-systems, to efficiently execute commands using the available distributed resource (nodes)

In simple words, you have a phased system acting like a human heart (systolic system), pull data followed by push commands.

There are variants, under distributed algorithms, with more or less centralisation or distribution of the nodes: to illustrate consider extreme schemes where nodes vote to request something based on their status and expected forecast, then the decision is majority based; another way is no vote, but a central supervision node decides...

This is about autonomous versus centralised (applications include traffic management).

Now the current fashion is for Edge Processing (node autonomy)...

From reading what you have highlighted , I think both are same. To cooperate, nodes have to coordinate also. Don't get confuse However I welcome others views also.

Nitin Gupta yes. to make coordination nodes have to communicate with each other or depend on a centralized system as Renaud Di Francesco said.

In case of cooperative, its not always necessary to make communication among all nodes. they just take data from transmitter, amplify or DF (Decode, forward) to destination. Destination takes decision using N-out-of-K rule.

To make cooperation its necessary to make coordination, this is because relay nodes have to release their packets at the same time or at different time to reduce interference.

Am I right?

Let me take example from my work. In cooperative sensing, all nodes sense the channel to know that it is busy or idle and then these nodes send their own results to the base station. Then base station applies the N OUT of K rule and disseminate the results. In this case nodes are cooperating to base station for sensing but do not require coordination among themselves to do so because they are sensing independently.
