I found the term of BU (Beamforming Uncertainty) in Fundamental of Massive MIMO book. It is the considered as noise coming from the variance of desired signal. The explanation I got from that book is that it happens because user only knows channel statistics but not channel realization. Can anyone offer clearer explanation? And why does that only happen in Maximum Ratio/Conjugate Beamforming Precoding
The user does not know what the current channel realization is, but it knows that the channel*beamforming is close to its average value in Massive MIMO (thanks to channel hardening). Therefore, in the book Fundamentals of Massive MIMO, the average value is the best guess that the user can make. The deviation from the average is called beamforming uncertainty and leads to additional interference.
It happens with any precoding method, maximum ratio, zero-forcing, etc.
