What is an index value in a gray scale image which is not in an rgb image?

When i convert an rgb image to a gray scale image in MATLAB, there is an index value in the gray scale image but for the rgb image.

Gray=R=G=B, for example, R=130, G=130 and B=130, but gray value estimated from rgb values as Gray = R*0,31 + G*0,59 + B*0.1 (R=200,G=100,B=90 Gray=200*0,31 + 100*59 + 90*0,1= 62 + 59 + 9 = 130)
