An undergrad question..find a suitable oxidising agent... typical answer is Potassium permangamate (acidic conditions) as an oxidant. However, for your problem you might be better with using bubbling Cl2 or titrating Br2 into the solution. Much less mess in the work up as you could just evaporate the reagents. Best wishes
