Most of zirconates can be synthesized by a solid-phase method. For example:
CaO+ ZrO2 → CaZrO3.
For this way requires a high-temperature crucible (for example, corundum) as well as appropriate furnace. The synthesis is carried out in several stages, with intermediate grinding. Synthesis is best carried out on compacted pellets. The annealing temperatures depend on the properties of the components. It is good to look firstдн to the phase diagram of the components in order to avoid the eutectic (the components can undergo to eutectic melting, and after the appearance of the liquid phase, even its traces, and the sample is strongly agglomerate). The result is controlled by XRD. Examples can be found in the relevant articles, mostly by 70-80 years of the twentieth century, since now the sol-gel synthesis methods are considered preferable.
You may also prepare zirconate material using ZrO2 by soft chemical method. Dissolve ZrO2 using 20%HF aqueous solution. The dissolved solution can be precipitated by NH4OH solution then can be converted to Zr tartarate using tartaric acid. The Zr tartarate solution my now be used for any zirconate synthesis of your choice.
