What happens if we apply equal and opposite velocity to the satellite in an orbit? neglecting effect of atmosphere.

According to me it should fall straight towards earth under free fall condition. Now, if we are observing from moon, the satellite should follow spiral trajectory where as if we are observing from earth reference frame, it should come straight towards the ground instead of spiral path.

Please help me to understand to it correctly.
