I ask the question in the form of an image entitled A Modernist Pictorial Tableau, which anticipates the future development of image generation software such as Midjourney, as it challenges the current progress not just of AI but also any attempt by cognitive neuroscientists to make sense of art and aesthetics via computing.
The ability for AI to not only generate visuals but also impact perception offers a huge leap in both technology and our understanding of cognition. This might transform industries like art, neuroscience, and even human-computer interaction, pushing the boundaries of how humans create and perceive visual information.
Combining generative and perceptive solutions could improve AI by, for example, creating a feedback loop where AI iteratively uses perception to check for errors in generated visuals (or other content) and replace these anomalies with regenerated and corrected output, thus improving the result.
As AI advances in directing both image generation and perception, it could revolutionize our understanding of art and aesthetics. By integrating sophisticated perception with creative capabilities, AI may not only enhance artistic expression but also offer new insights into cognitive processes and the nature of creativity itself.
The danger with cognitive science is that they are researching questions without knowing what art is, so they just use the word art as an assumption and as an artist I challenge those assumptions, here challenging the current state of augmented reality and art:
What might the outcome be?
Suppose the computer says A - but you feel B about a certain work of art? What would the outcome be?

Sense?
What could that "sense" then be?
When does an image become "sensible"?
Can aesthetics have an objective meaning - or is aesthetics only possible if the subject - you - can give sense to what you see?
Some images have an objective meaning - they are called "traffic signs" and the traffic law says what they mean in the book.
What else could a computer others do than check the rules?
In an academic system there exist indeed some rules - but is there today no art possible outside of the academic system?
What rules should the computer check?
If you are aesthetically blind, no computer can help you
If you have four teams in a group, each team could play three fixtures and that would be the extent of possibility.
If you have a 2D data set to work with i.e. all that is pictorial acreage via the height and width of the visual field then there are the rules of perspective geometry that can apply to each individual shape and that constitutes the scope of architectonic imagery possible from the data.
This is something that can be done and has yet to be done and as the tech. is not yet developed enough, I have attempted to write a full description of that pictorial matrix.
