Earlier I had thought that any lignin coming in a processed form from an industry was technical lignin. but recently I read a research paper ( ACS Sustainable Chem. Eng. 2018, 6, 12675−12683 ) and they mention their lab-extracted-lignin as technical lignin. So, in general, when lignin is bound inside a biomass, it is native lignin; and when I extract lignin from any biomass- it becomes technical lignin, am I right? On the other hand, what to do if I want to depolymerize 'non-technical' or 'native' lignin? Does it mean that I have to do it without extracting it from the biomass?
(P.S. I want to know more about the terminologies, rather than the actual details of technologies related to lignin depolymerization)

Chemicals are broadly classified into 3 categories:
1) Fine chemicals or ultra-pure chemicals & these will have purity similar to a golden ounce 99.999%. They are expensive because of the effort done in their purification.
2) Technical-grade chemicals or simply "technical chemicals". These will have reasonable purity (may be 85-95 % ) which allows their use in teaching laboratories at universities. Most solid & liquid chemicals in labs are technical since their cost is "acceptable" for teaching (not research) as well as their performance.
3) Coarse chemicals which generally have purity less than 85%. These chemicals are relatively cheap to buy & those who purchase them are expected to know that they will be responsible for their purification.
I shall give an example which applies to other chemicals: There are 3 grades of solid benzoic acid C6H5-COOH ( fine, technical, and coarse) available in the market & most of the sales are done on technical benzoic acid.
