I am trying to analyze a sample of polystyrene particles with three different diameters: around 6 um, around 26 um, and around 90 um. When computing the number-average diameter, I get 13.94; whereas the volume-average diameter yields 87.7. Thus, my PDI is about 6.3. This is extremely high compared to values in literature, and I am not sure whether I am doing something wrong, or if my sample is just very disperse.
Does anyone have any insight into what might be going on?

Dear Celia Fernández Brillet, the simplest deginition of PDI is Mw/Mn, where Mw is the weight average molecular weight, and Mn is the number average molecular weight. My Regards

Well, I don't know the meaning of the diameters you are using. If it is the radius of gyration then scaling equations for the relationships are available in textbooks. If they mean something else you should refer to the appropriate original works. If possible some details still are necessay. My Regards

PDI is basically a representation of the distribution of size populations within a given sample. The numerical value of PDI ranges from 0.0 (for a perfectly uniform sample with respect to the particle size) to 1.0 (for a highly polydisperse sample with multiple particle size populations).
