Most of the application of silver doped carbon composites show a -ve zeta potential. But, I got it positive. Why? I have used silver chloride as the silver precursor, thus I was expecting a -ve zeta potential value. Any comments ?
If we take your observation of positive zeta potential as being certain, then I would ask some questions about the nitrogen species in this "nitrogen doped carbon material". Perhaps some nitrogen species are on the surface of your composite and they are giving the charge. Was the "nitrogen doped carbon material" well washed before it was composited with silver? Perhaps a simple acid/base titration over a range where the silver doesn't dissolve might tell you something. Or find a friend with TOF-SIMS or XPS and have them examine your particle surfaces as a bulk sample. Or EDS on an SEM of your particles for nitrogen/other element mapping.
