The absorbance peak depends on the substance or reaction you are working on. For example, the absorbance peak for silver nanoparticles is 274 nm. Importantly, you must have read the literature to know the range of the absorbance peak of your substance. Then set your UV-Vis spec within this range and watch out for your substance peak.
