I believe obtaining PhD degree is the Start only in the journey of science and researches, and hard working. Science is a long journey; it has stops but there is no end for it.
I beleive that PhD studies should have an advisor. you do not have to invent a new philosophy to finish your PhD. The only thing you need is hard work. Finding problems for a PhD the following opinion is a good one:

My view is that the PhD and other doctoral degrees are a recognised framework for us to make contributions to knowledge, whether developing new hypothesis, disproving existing theory and/or confirming existing hypotheses to become theory (refer Kuhn).
The PhD is also an emotional rollercoaster, and a great cause of stress, disappointment, anxiety, sleepless nights of thinking, relief or satisfactions of finishing something, Eureka moments, and many other emotions. Gaining a PhD is not the end of the road but just the first step in a lifelong journey. (I wish someone would have told me that before I started.)
