I am not sure at what level are you aiming to teach, but it is always recommended in academic writing to teach English grammar in a context. I believe this rule applies to other levels. This brief paper from the Trinity College discusses some approaches regarding teaching grammar in a context using inductive and deductive methods. There are other articles in the literature that you may read.

There have generally been two approaches to the teaching of grammar: Deductive and inductive.
In the deductive or explicit approach, the teacher explains a grammatical pattern until the students learn it very well. Then, they are given a number of sentences which they have to change according to the targeted rule. By contrast, in the inductive or implicit approach, the learners are given a number of sample sentences which they examine and discover their underlying grammar rule.
In addition to the valid points made above, it`s worth thinking about grammar teaching from the perspective of Michael Lewis` "Lexical Approach". Think of chunks of language and their function e.g. "If I were you, I`d ....." or "I wonder if you`d mind ...ing...". In this way, you waste less time explaining rules (which are always fraught with exceptions) and less time memorising unnecessary metalanguage. Instead, Ss learn how to say what they want to say to express a need/want/idea using "handy" chunks which, when complemented by the appropriate vocabulary (which, in my view can be seen to include "grammar"), they can use to express themselves in myriad situations.
In my experience, inductive approach to grammar teaching is the most useful. Yes, it require a lot of effort, but it bears wonderful results.
An inductive approach involves the learners detecting, or noticing, patterns and working out a 'rule' for themselves before they practice the language.
