What is groundtruth & why it is needed in the hyperspectral imaging.

I have a pavia dataset (matlab file) with it's assosiate ground truth file. What is role of this ground truth file.

Ground truth images are used to ensure how effective your output is. In imaging you get output image according to the operations you have performed. But those output images are correct or not, that can be ensured by this ground truth file.
