I know this might be trivial, but I really don't know where even to begin looking for information, so any help would be much appreciated:
Comparing LaCoO3 and (La,Sr)MnO3, is there a way to tell whether the nature and/or amount of surface adsorbates will differ? The synthesis procedure is the same for both materials and they have been stored in air, but with reduced moisture. The materials are slightly oxygen deficient (\delta in LaCoO_{3-\delta} is about 0.04).
Any thoughts?

Hi Cornelia, this is a simplistic answer for a complicated question. Chemisorption processes are somewhat common to oxides in water because the oxygen can protonate or de-protonate and thereby form chemical bonds with adsorbing species. But anions will favour chemisorption at the cations at the solid's surface. Physisorption can also occur and this can dominate in porous materials of a particular pore size. So are your solids likely to be porous? What happens to the surfaces in water? Do you know their point of zero charge for example? This won't answer the amount of adsorption that might occur but it is at least a start.
