I am investigating what this team needs to become a self directing team. The members are colleagues and we give practical classes to dental hygiëne students.
We are having problems to efficiently meet eachother because of different schedules. The composition of the team differs almost every 3 months. There are a number of teachers who can teach these lessons and every 2-3 months they pick 4-5 of them to do the job.

Dear professor Umachandran, thank you for your input. Maybe I can use it when we implement digital learning for my colleagues. It is an interesting view! Do you also have ideas for a tool which team of lecturers can use together in order to become more self directed? I was thinking about a app which they can use to share interesting items they met in their classrooms or to start a topic. But it has to be something extra more than that, to have them stay informed, even though they are not giving the lessons this block. With tasks to pick from and to carry out. Hope you have more innovative ideas.
For students self directed learning, i promote assignments as you tube posts and further deliberations. I have tried it last semester for Principles of Management course work.
- Class is segregated into very small groups (like minded grouping)
- two-three members per group
- where ever some intervention is required to freeze or realign, openly discussed and democratically regrouped.
- Teams are asked to identify topics
- All teams are processed for the activity
- Individual mock presentation and clarification support to teams in the class (in the presence of other teams)
- Competitiveness plays the spirit
- Inter team support and inputs taken and processed.
- Video recording of the team's presentation with inter team facilitation
- Host in You-tube
- Teams present their you-tube streams live and add points more than that was missed in video capture.
the whole learning is self directed, hand-hold upon requirement
