The JCR 2017 has been released (file attached) and I am surprised about the increment in the IFs of many journals in the Information and communication technology (ICT) area such as Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Telecommunications. Many questions about this fact came to my mind. The new company responsible for this report, Clarivate Analytics, published an infographic (file attached) about it, stating that the average increments in the IFs this edition was about 9%. Many journals in ICTs have an unprecedented high impact factor in this year edition. I made a random pickup of some communications and networking journals and computed their average IF increment from the JCR 2016 to the JCR 2017. The average IF increment was about 60% (file attached). What could be the reasons for this high increment?
