What could be the reason for the adsorbent with higher surface area adsorbed less than the adsorbent with the lower surface area?

I am presently working on the two different material for adsorption purpose.But some how i am finding that the material with higher surface area,pore volume and pore size is adsorbing less as compare to the material with lower surface area,pore volume and pore size.
