It is obvious that the newly released summary of the IPCC report pinpointed (now with clear remarks on uncertainties) several important challenges with respect to global climate change. Several COP meetings are ahead of us. Do we really expect that the global authorities will be able to cope with these challenges ?
I'm not sure though. This is a purely a political issue. It’s a blame game with everyone pointing fingers towards someone else. This will end up with more blame so have to stump up more of the cost.
Personally, I don't think it's so much a matter of "can we", I think it's more of a "will we". The human condition is on of greed and individualism. It's tough to have humans collectively, on a global scale, agree to make the drastic changes needed to address the challenges of global climate change. Moreover, with the way political systems are set up, the wild differences in political opinions are certainly hindering the changes that we need to make. In brief, I think we have the ability to take on these changes, but I don't think we have the political or humane will to do so in the hasty manner that needs to happen.
It seems to me this report showed solid evidences that scientific community did very good job and improved the uncertainties. I would expect positive consequences meaning may be more governmental/political commitments and people awareness of climate change is becoming important.
