In order to isolate the higher amount of secondary metabolites from Plant. Before extraction the plant samples should be drying in shed and its good to avoid over heating in oven.
However if you talk about changes and engineering in the living plant, It was being reported by some author that giving nutritional stress to a plant usually leads to more flavenoid production in plant, which is one of the major secondary metabolites.
If already identified specific genes for specific secondary metabolite in Artemisia, than you can mutate that gene to get higher amount of secondary metabolites. Hope my answer will help you little bit.
Hi, I agree with the comments of Priyanka above; to increase the content of a secondary metabolite of a plant, you can do using biotechnology approaches by optimized the external factors (e.g. composition of the media, giving stress factor etc) or using biochemical engineering (genetic engineering) . I think there a lot of publications in these topics
for the higher amount of specific metabolites from Artemisia, use fresh new raw material and to avoid using high temperature methods, also, if you have enough capacity labs, modify stress factors for specific terpenoides.
