I would suggest you give your question a focus, a specific example to serve your basic theme metonymically. A given character (Martin Luther King, Jr, for example) or a given character type (Servants, leaders, villains, heros: Hattie McDaniels' famous role in Gone with the Wind to Forrest Whittacker 's equally remarquable performance eighty odd years later). Or how about the token black star (Sidney Poitier, Eddy Murphy, Denzel Washington...)

There are many possibilites, but I would suggest something along one of those lines...

Francis Steven Mickus Thank you so much for this. This is really helpful. I have now focused on Ethnographic approach in my research. I picked a blockbuster African Film(The Wedding Party), which talks about a wedding ceremony between two different ethnic groups. I want to investigate the authenticity of the reality compared to how the story was communicated by the director.

I plan to also include audience participation in my research to understand the effect of the film on the community.

What will you advise will be the best Methodology, step by step, to take to achieve success?

Much of your methodology already there:

What is the director's intent? How does the audience react? Before even setting up questionnaire, sit in on a number of screening and see how the audience reacts as a group. Then you can augment that with individual questionnaires.

The question of reality versus fiction is always tricky, as fiction, at its best, is reality distilled. Realty, moreover can sometimes be clouded by what you think is reality, that is what your own experience and outlook can be. But that isn't intinsicly reality. It is your perception.

To come up with a more object sense of reality would be to compare the reality of life in a similar socio-economic level.

Start by setting up the basic information on the film (when and where was it shot, actors, writer, director, DP, production company...)

Matthew I would suggest you go and meet some of the people you wish to write about. In Australian Indigenous studies, there are many paper that are reviews of other papers, and produced without actually meeting the people or going to Country. That's not automatically bad, but to actually meet the subjects of research has got to add value and authenticity.
