For the validation you will need to compare vulnerability results with the spatial distribution (concentration) of a hypothetical surface- released contaminant. The best “candidate” for this process is TOC according to literature (see COST 620 – chapters related with vulnerability validation). Many researches use NO3 concentrations for that purpose, but , to my belief this posses some serious restrictions. For example, you cannot use NO3 for validation unless your hydrogeological basin is somehow “closed” to adjacent basins; otherwise, there is strong possibility to get erroneous results from the migration of the potential contaminant plume from the adjacent hydrogeological basins. In that case you cannot perform direct comparisons (in terms of validation) with the vulnerability results, because the enriched values of the contaminant in groundwater  will not be affected by the vertical vulnerability, but due to lateral flow. The second thing you have to take into account, is that validation of intrinsic vulnerability with the use of contaminant values needs caution, because you neglect the physical attenuation processes which are taken into consideration only to specific vulnerability results.

Dear Prashant,

Your first query is answered appropriately. As regard the second, there is no way except to validate your vulnerability map from experimental data. Take samples of groundwater from zones of different vulnerability levels ( away from the boundary of a zone) only for a single pollutant, say nitrate and compare these experimental values whether these conform with the predicted level or not. Since, single sample may be misleading, therefore take many samples and average them before comparing such values from other zones.
