It is clear that every human-made system may be faced with some predictable/unpredictable disturbances which can significantly disrupt performance of the system of interest. Reviewing the literature on Resilience Engineering (RE), one of the most important characteristic suggested for the system is “System Absorption”. That is, an ability of the concerned system that paves the way for apsorping the disturbance. With respect to this characteristic, I would like to ask three related inquiries;

1. Actually, Are “System Absorption” and “System Reliability” the same characteristic of system?

2. If the answer of the question 1 is Yes, could we utilize the “system Robustness Measures” to measure/assess the absorbability of the system?

3. If the answer of the question 1 is No, What measures could be utilized as sound measures to evaluate and/or assess the level of system absorbability?

Thank you

Ali
