What are the trends of research in chemical engineering in general and process engineering in particular? And what are the skills needed to master (modeling , data analytics , softwares ... ) in order to not be left behind in the future.

The trend for research work is biomass material to replace fuel oil product.
Biodegradeable ackakging, natural product to replace artifical flavor, circular economic.....
The skilll you should have is learning tools for analysis , such as 6 sigma, mintab.......

Current and urgent problem I see is the conversion of CO2 to marketable chemicals (I insist on the plural) using more or less feasible processes until we run out of fossil fuels. I don't think that we will stop using those fuels until then (unfortunately).

The actual trend for research is bioremediation of Petroleum from soil and contaminated water bodies. Is a interesting research line, because you can propose work with microorganism, enzymes cocktails And so on.
I agree with all the indications. I would add one more. In the pulp area, they research new products and applications using cellulose and lignin as their raw material.
