Can anyone direct me to the studies / authors that have looked at the teaching, learning and/or research benefits of quality management in HE?I have found several references on the benefits of QM in terms of improving structures and processes at HEIs, however I have not been able to locate any source that discusses its contribution to educational outcomes (teaching, research,etc) even in passing. Is there any research on that? Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi Lela: Here on the US there's a quality regime called the Baldridge awards. University of Wisconsin Stout was the first HEI to be awarded that distinction for the education category.http://www.uwstout.edu/about/mba/
Since then its mostly been achieved by K-12 and school districts.
Their story would be a good example of quality at HEI.

The same principles of Quality management can be applied in the HE & research also but the output depends upon the attitude of the people of the individual organization. I thinks other fellows have suggested some papers which may be useful for your question.
@ Lela, benefits of Quality Management in terms of improving educational outcomes (teaching, research,etc) have been validated, but largely not practiced, hence the need for such a question. the applications have been instead on peripheral processes, and in improving structures. There is thus a need to both research for the right methodology (and models) to apply Quality Management, and also secure the benefits duly achieved by industry, for they remain as potential benefits due to teaching and research @ right application of Quality Management at HEIs?
