The input and requirement from industry should be added to enrich the research and research should focus the industrial problems rather than only for thesake of doing reserch and only for the purpose of one acdemic achievement.

Our consultant for curriculum development told us that the industry (a particular firm) must be part of the development of the curriculum and must assure the academe that it will absorb or provide employment to its graduates.
What are the possible ways to reduce gap between academia and Industry ?
In my personal view, some possible ways include:
Expose academic researcher(s) to provide consulting services to industrial practitioners besides conducting research & lecturing.
Invite / encourage / motivate industrial practitioners to attend academic conferences and seek their input on potential future research or challenges faced by industry today
Channel some industry challenges / problems to academic researchers so that the latter can take up some challenges & embark on some research initiatives
Industry corporations to fund some research to be conducted by academic researcher(s)
Organize on-and-off discussion forums or expos between academicians & industrial practitioners for better interlock, networking & collaboration.
Encourage more academicians and industrial practitioners to join social networking websites like ResearchGate, Academia etc.
University–industry interactions in applied research:The case of microelectronics
We discuss the pattern of research in microelectronics, illustrating the reasons why, in order to achieve distinguished scientific performance, universities need to collaborate with industry, and in particular academic researchers need to interact with industrial ones by face-to-face knowledge exchanges...
Collaboration and interaction between universities and firms, giving rise to two-way knowledge flows, is highly beneficial and of mutual advantage...
Now a days new working model is proving better in establishing strong relationship, which is JIP or JIPP Joint Industry Project Partnership; Basically academic researcher call for few industry partners for a developing solution of a common issue faced by all industries in the partnership, so, the financial burden is shared by all partner industry where academic side partners perform applied research to find the working solution. In this case IP is the shared IP.
Another model is the establishment of PPRN private-public research network
In my opinion, it is fundamentally impossible to "reduce gap between academia and Industry", since this gap will only increase. Scientists and Developers have different groups of intellectual blood, different styles of thought, I would say different intellectual mentalities. To express my thought clearly I want to cite a phrase from "Donald Norman: Designing For People" (http://www.jnd.org/dn.mss/the_research-practice_gap_1.html).
"There is an immense gap between Research and Practice. I'm tempted to paraphrase Kipling and say "Oh, research is research, and practice is the practice, and never the twain shall meet "... The gap between these two communities is real and frustrating ... ".
Everyone understands that theses are written mainly for career growth and most of them do not have any contribution to science. Therefore, let us not interfere with scientists to live in their imaginary coordinate system, they are necessary to us as lecturers to reproduce knowledge in universites. The good developers will always combine the properties of a scientist and a developer to achieve their goals and they are good at it.
What are the possible ways to reduce gap between academia and Industry ?
The people from academia must go to industry to get practical knowledge. And vice versa - some very good people from industry are able to teach selected courses. The people without praxis should not to teach at all - sure not in technics branches.
If the academia and industry worked well, their communication will be established , so both of them will work properly. Finally industry will be improved, otherwise, the gap between academia and industry keeps getting bigger.
Collaborating on executive initiatives between the university and the industry, which will provide both academic and academic performance enhancements both for executive and academic achievements.
