I attached a sample figure of one of my recorded friction loops using AFM. I believe this figure is not correct because the forward scan and backward scan have crossovers. I think this is not correct theoretically.
Is it possible to explain the possible reasons for having this type of recorded friction loop for me?

If I were you, I shall repeat the measurements with scanning at different scan angles (to rule out the possibility of your asymmetric tip shape), also change your PI feedback gains to align your forward and reverse trace.. changing tips can also help to understand the effect of tip and confirm if the your sample has friction asymmetric to different direction.. to understand physics at much deeper, it would be good to know about the sample in more detail..
Abhimanyu Rana My samples are Calcite and Quartz and Dolomite. I do not have control on the crystal structure in my experiment. Moreover, I am conducting experiments in the dry condition and room temperature. I don't know if these cause this behavior. I think what I am observing is the superlubricity, but I am not sure yet.
Ok.. may be you can get one reference sample and repeat the measurement on that just after you do it on your sample.. it can rule out the possibility if something your external conditions changes (in case you don't have a controlled AFM system)..
