in other words, are you working on a research project on the determinants of innovation performance at a national level?

or, are you involved in a consultancy project?

or, just for curiosity?

in any case, the so-called framework conditions of innovation are of crucial importance; these include, e.g. the nature and intensity of competition, macro-economic situation, the structure of the economy, standards and regulation, the overall entrepreneurship culture, human resources, the quality and directions of projects conducted by the publicly financed R&D units.

in my scientific activity I’m working on the issue of innovation and its impact on competitiveness and development of both economies and business entities functioning in them. My question is clear so far, with my interests and writing sample various publications on the subject. I must admit that in the future I would like to implement a project of this type of research moving scientific area.

There is a large body of academic literature now in 'Innovation Studies', based on a systems approach to your questions.  This goes back to work done from the 1960s onwards by 'neo-Schumpeterians'.  I attach a copy of a paper indicating their methodological approach to national competitiveness with empirical data.  Innovation Studies researchers have influenced policy in Scandinavia and the Netherlands, for example, but so far with mixed results.

The importance of the determinants of innovation will vary depending on the definition of that and the circumstances in which innovation is at play. The Oslo Manual: Guidelines for Collecting and Interpreting Innovation Data defines four types of innovation: product innovation, process innovation, marketing innovation, and organizational innovation. Some would add input innovation, management innovation, and business model innovation.
