Ductile iron pipe was used some time ago for oil transportation. However, it was observed that selective leaching occurs in the shape of a corrosion phenomenon and nickel alloy was suggested to be added to the iron. Won't nickel encourage the stabilization of carbide in this iron during production? What mechanism would nickel use in combating the effects of selective leaching of this metal?

Generally, Ni act in Ferrous alloy as Austenite (γ-Fe) former. Furthermore, When Ni is added, it prevents the corrosion of iron (Fe) due to double oxide (NiFe2O4) on the steel.
