Dear community, I have to study atmospheric pattern circulation associated with extreme past drought events during summer time between 1960 to 2017 in the tropics in order to understand the different deep convection features over South America. However, I found out so far that the only OLR source available is NCEP/NCAR datasets which goes from 1979 until now and do not allow me to see before 80's. So, is there any other reliable reconstructed data I might use ? Thanks in advance.
Hi Cristian, The NOAA interpolated OLR dataset goes back to 1974 (https://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/data/gridded/data.interp_OLR.html). Unfortunately, reliable OLR data depend on satellites that are mostly unavailable prior to 1970s. More high resolution data such as IR brightness temperature may be obtained from CLAUS or GridSat-B1.
