The wood/timber production of small scale farmers is seriously under-reserached. It doesn't fall into the usual research question of sectoral research (agriculture, forestry, economics). However, most small scale farmers grow a handful trees on their plots, mostly in order to have access to construction material but also to sell in case of sudden emergency. Day to day energy-wood need is often met by collecting wood on non-private land.

However, we often find local or regional markets for wood. The question is, how does the access to these markets work.

In Ghana, one can find mobile buyers who buy from small scale farmers and sell at their own shop. Other forms are thinkable, does anyone know more?
