Accommodation is the single most essential part of any stay in a destination. Accordingly, accommodation is available everywhere and forms the foundation of the tourism industry. Regarding their travelling patterns and trip characteristics, travelers choose luxury hotels with a variety of services to budget hotels with limited facilities. During two main school holidays in Iran, New Year and summer, lots of families travel to different parts of the country. Due to the length of these two main school holidays and since during the school holiday, schools are not occupied with students; they may be available for domestic travelers to stay overnight.
Although the facilities and services are so limited, lots of travelers who want to decrease their travel expenses may stay in those prepared schools. The question here is how can we analyse the condition of these schools in order to put them in the list of tourism accommodation?
I think if the schools that you referred to, received money from the guests and provided some services to the customers (e.g., breakfast, beds), so these can claim the school as a tourism destination.
Thank you for the answer. According to you, financial benefit is important for a place to be considered as a tourism accomodation? Do you have somthing as check list for accomodation type and facilities. We need more justification for that....
My pleasure Banafsheh! I am sorry for some typo in my comment (destination should be accommodation). For the check list, I do not have it but could I make some recommendations to you? I think literature about hotel management form textbooks and some up-to-date journals can help you in this stage. The meaning of accommodation from variety sources can shape your idea how to rate the schools as a tourism accommodation.
Dear Banafsheh, although your question was submitted last year, here is my answer regarding the characteristics of tourism accommodations: in every country there are regulations, legislation and specifications about the existing or the develoment of new lodgings. E.g. in Greece, in order for a property to be characterized as a hotel it should have at least 10 bedrooms with a private bathroom, front office and some basic facilities for the guests' dining and recreation. I'm sure that such regulations exist in your country as well and therefore all you have to do is ask for them from the local tourism authorities.
