Coppicing is an English term for a traditional method of forest management which takes advantage of the fact that many trees make new growth from the stump or roots if cut down. In a coppiced forest, young tree stems are repeatedly cut down to near ground level. In this situation, among Crown Cover (C.C), Diameter at Breast Height (DBH), Heigh (H), Crown Area (CA), Number of Sprouts (NS), Qualityof Sprouts (Qs), Spatial Disriburion of Sprouts (SDS) and othe parameters,What are the main biometric indicators?

I think the most important parameters are diameter at breast height and heigh.

Forest protection fuctions are very important in coppice forests. So far diameter at breast height and heigh can not be the most important indicators in this situation. It seems that we should be looking for sprouts and crown cover indicators in this condition.

I understood. I thought that was for sivicultural. So it is much better to work with crown cover indicators. I think you can also work with dry and fresh weight to determine biomass and carbon allocation, becouse many trees make new growth from the stump or roots if cut down.

Measurment of dry and fresh weight to determine biomass is complex. It seems Crown cover and Sprout indicators more appropriate but which index of Crown cover and Sprout indicators? crown cover indicators, themselves are differnt. Crown Symmetry, Crown area, Diameter of Crown and other indicators as well as Sprout indicators are differnt. Number of Sprouts, quality of sprouts, health of sprouts and other indicators?
Which of these are key indicators in coppice forests?

Have a look at our conference presentation for trunk mass/carbon sequestration of coppice versus single stem trees of the same species at the same site. Coppice is/was common in the Central Apennines. Standard practice for these purposes (e.g. UNFCCC reporting) is DBH and tree height measurement on the ground.
From the perspective of plant biodiversity(e.g. in the CBD context), especially the species-richness of the herbaceous forest floor vegetation, coppice versus high-tree forest seem relevant from first principle and my anecdotal observation. However, I have not come across recent and pertinent empirical literature. I would be grateful for references.

Many biometric indicators can be mesured or calculated in a coppice stand. Age and top height are rather simple to get, and many others indicators are linked with them. When stands are old enough, basal area is usefull (most of the time, basal area factor used is 0.5). Hope this helps.

If it's any help, in Spain, in the forestry company where I worked, adjust allometric equations for estimating biomass produced by coppice of different species of eucalyptus. Being highly variable number of sprouts per stump and density thereof, the parameters needed for adjustment, were diameter and height the highest bud and number of buds per stump.
