What makes an effective teacher education program is a question commonly asked by educators. In your opinion, what are the indicators of an effective teacher education program?
From my perspective, you need to understand the needs and wants of your students and be knowledgeable about curriculum content and the strategies for teaching it. In addition, try to communicate with students and find out what is expected of them, and why. Professionally use the existing instructional materials and try different ways to attract your learners to be fully engaged during the course.
An effective teacher education program needs to be assessed and evaluated to its curriculum content with theory and practice. This involves varied activities in line with the goals for the teachers to have hands-on opportunities to apply their knowledge and develop their practical teaching skills in real classroom settings. This should be implemented with target goals and time frame which evaluation be done for its quality and effectiveness. It is not only for implementation but proper monitoring for further improvement of the program.

The field of teaching performance and the use of all that is new and developed in teaching methods and methods. The field of development, self-development, evaluation and self-correction. The field of human relations, counseling, student guidance, interaction and communication in learning situations.
The essence of a teacher Education program is to ensure availability of efficient, effective and morally upright teachers to teach at any level of education and to impact the society significantly. An efficient teacher is the one who is acadedemically and professionally qualified. Academic qualification deals with provision and acquisition of a minimum certificate necessary to teach at a specific level of education and a country. For Instance, National Certificate of Education(NCE) is the minimum academic requirement to teach in Nigerian Schools. Professional qualification has to do with teacher's registration and licensing with the appropriate bodies to keep updating their knowledge through educational programs like workshops, conferences, seminars and symposia.
However, teacher's effectiveness has to do with their ability to acquire both practical and theoretical knowledge that will make their students successful both academically and morally. Teaching practice is necessary to acquire the practical knowledge while the Ethics of teaching profession as a course or topic is necessary to groom a pre-service teacher into an heroic teacher who is effective and morally upright. Looking at this explanations, the following could be seen as indicators of effective teacher education program;
(1) Awarding teacher's certificate
(2) Graduate knowledge of subject matter
(3) Teaching practice
(4) Ethics of teaching profession as a course or a topic.
A curriculum of effective teacher education programme should include- Exploration of new teaching methods and techniques as per the changing scenario, Innovation, freedom to exploration and research, creativity, employability, child psychology, Guidance and counselling, School management and feeling of community service and responsibility towards society.
One of the key indicators for me is the the active involvement of teachers, their satisfaction, their understanding of how practical and useful the program is and how much they learned. Teachers are not an easy group to teach.
