Metaheuristic algorithms are applied in many sectors of industry. I think a good example is on transportation and logistics. Companies like UPS and FedEx use metaheuristic algorithms, like genetic algorithms (GA) and ant colony optimization (ACO), to optimize delivery routes and schedules.
Airline industry also employ these algorithms, and others like particle swarm optimization (PSO) for crew scheduling, flight scheduling, and maintenance planning.
Another example in a completely different sector is healthcare. Hospitals and medical institutions use metaheuristic algorithms for optimizing treatment plans in radiotherapy, to make sure the maximum dose is delivered to tumors while minimizing exposure to healthy tissues.
