Hello!! I have some questions regarding the effects of physical parameters over a UE battery usage. I want to know that what are the factors which increase a user's battery drainage in LTE? What are the effects of Low SINR over UE battery? How does Low received power effects ? Distance from a BS ?? Data size and data rate play any role over battery ?? Or any other factors which need to be controlled for Battery Efficiency.

Distance between a user and eNodeB (base station of LTE is called eNodeB) and SINR are counted as the parameters that affect UE's battery drainage because when your phone is switch on, it is on the idle mode and in idle mode UE needs to camp on a given cell in a base station, but if the cell is far from the UE so it keeps searching to find a cell, this process can consume more battery. If the UE does a successful searching then you can see antenna bar on top of your phone's screen and the type of the technology that it could connect like 3G and 4G.
I am not expert in LTE but as I guess the battery drain and energy consumption depend on transmit power, carrier frequency, modulation and codding type and etc. If these parameters are selected optimistically in an LTE cellular system then user experiences an optimal battery life but if this optimization is not performed by the operator then energy consumption would be considerably high. I guess this is why Apple iphone sometimes warns you that the LTE network you are connecting to seems not to be optimized. This situation is severe in LTE since the data rate and service quality must be kept considerably high in comparison to the older generations.

In summary, when a UE try to access the BS by transmitting Random access Preamble (RACH), it must receive an acknowledgement from the BS and uplink synchronization must be done. But, for some reason (distance or collision between two UE's RACH) the UE doesn't receive the acknowledgement, it will transmit/perform the RACH again after waiting for some specified time. Again, if it doesn't receive the acknowledgement then it will increase the power to compensate the power loss. This is just one example. There are many other parameters that can effect the battery of the UE. Like, handover, data rate, etc.
