Redgram crop is being cultivating in shallow red soils which are having poor waterholding capacity. The farmers who ever cultivating the Redgram crop is in sandy soils there is a major problem of Wilt. I want to know the what are best wilt management methods ....
@Rajashekhar Red soils are usually deficient in organic matter (om). The addition of om could possibly reduce the concentration of the soil borne pathogen, Fusarium udum. Seed treatment with bavistin @2g/kg seed, and with Trichoderma @10g/kg seed may provide effective solution to wilt. Application of irrigation at least 3 weeks before flowering, and at pod-filling stage could also have positive effect on pigeonpea wilt. However, the use of wilt resistant varieties must be preferred to all other methods of wilt management in red gram.
Use of trichoderma@ 10g + pseudomonas fluorescence @10g per kg seed treatment and also applied 5-6 kg trichoderma /ha . It is mixed 15-20 day before in fym or vermicompost for multiplication . At last ploughing incorporate in soil and mix them . This method reduces wilting percent in red gram.
In terms of the issues of pigeon pea Cajanus cajan L. wilt disease the pathogens involved can be fungal species of diverse types such as Fusarium Macrophomina and Phytpthophtora.
Fusarium and Macrophimina can both be seed-borne.
I concur that the control should include the use of raised bed culture. Drainage is very useful in getting better root growth.
I would suggest besides the use of biological biocontrol that the use of seed treatments directed at the pathogens can be compatible to the Trichoderma treatment.
In relation to nutritional requirements, the use of phosphate as a starter can increase the early growth response.
The application in the starter is optimized at 20 to 40 kg per ha as a lay aside. Organic treatment would include the use of earthworm castings.
The intercropping fo red gram with the use of intercropping with cereal grains such as millets and sorghum.
Rotation of first red gram then cereal grain is helpful and the cereal breaks disease cycles.
Interplanting would be 4-row planting with red gram on the 2 outer rows and 2 inner rows being the sorghum or millet.
The use of red gram can greatly reduce requirements for supplemental Nitrogen and reduce the acidification of soil-related to ammoniated fertilizer use.
