the following are the disadvantages of virtual learning
Safety Virtual learners are often exposed to the flaws of the Internet. They are subject to inappropriate websites and ads, online predators, and hackers. Their privacy is at risk as well. Also, unlike brick and mortar schools, students are not under the constant supervision of a teacher (Bell, 2001).
Lack of Interaction Online learners miss out on face-to-face interaction. This inhibits their communication skills because they do not get to communicate with fellow students and faculty on a daily basis. They also miss out on personal instruction from teachers as well as classroom discussion (Illinois Online Network, 2010).
Lack of Motivation Online learners must exhibit self-discipline in order to be successful. Students who have trouble with procrastination and time management will have difficulties completing their work and avoiding distractions. Virtual schools also lack the structure found in traditional schools (Illinois Online Network, 2010).
Unpreparedness Students enrolled in virtual schools are unprepared to meet the challenges of collegiate life. They often lack the social and academic skills to succeed at the next level. Many have trouble adapting to the normalcy and structure of brick and mortar schools. They also have difficulties adapting to paper and pencil tests and assignments (Illinois Online Network, 2010).
I teach physics so this may not apply for all subjects.
Some of the students who are capable but are easily distracted seem to perform reasonably well with online learning. This can be attributed to less distractions and they tend not to lose focus. I have tried breaking a hour lesson down to 15minutes with live discussions and teaching and then the remaining 45 minutes is used for independent problem solving.
The less able students find it more difficult to engage with this format and they work better in a classroom situation. They require more one-to-one attention. The other major disadvantage is the inability to conduct experiments.
I teach language. The sound quality and delays in online teaching can be really frustrating. The issue with echo as well. I am enjoying teaching remotely because I know it won't be forever but I do find it challenging.
There is no seriousness in e-learning by the student, I think, one of the most important disadvantages, while the electronic exams are considered major disadvantages.
Worst disadvantage is it does not reach students who are staying far away , having no electricity and internet facility which is more than 60% in our country.
Talented willing students suffer most by E Learning.

Learning is essentially a social activity and is enriched by contact, support and collaboration with other learners. It is important to consider how students can use the rich, social and cultural diversity, of the school environment, to enhance their socio-communicative development. Students, engaged only in online learning, miss out greatly on expanding their social, communication and networking horizons. Sharing ideas, experiences, problems and solutions is all part of the learning process. This process of sharing is also central to life-skills and has long-reaching advantages for long-term personal development.
The one that immediately comes to mind is the following: Online developers of curricula assume that all students have a high level of proficiency in the language of instruction. This is often not the case and results in many students not fully accessing the curriculum. During face-to -face communication, there is opportunity to negotiate meaning. A good online curriculum developer should therefore anticipate such problems and build in language support in the online material.
E-learning critically disenfranchise most students in rural communities where access to compute, internet connection and power is difficult or minimal. Aside from that, the benefits of effective teacher-student interaction is to some extent eroded.
If the course is only providing content that can be found in a book, on-line may not present any problems for the students. However, if the course relies on the manipulation of materials or is clinically-based, the virtual experience cannot substitute for these experiences.
From the point of view of the teacher, there are several disadvantages:
- The most obvious one is the lack of training. The majority of teachers are not trained to teach in the online modality and thus they have to improvise and learn by trial and error.
- Then, there are issues related to digital literacy and the proper use of online tools and their affordances. This, of course, will vary from generation to generation.
- Rapport is another issue that could affect the online class environment, as it might be difficult to build rapport without face-to-face contact. Teachers miss out on body language and other hints that allow them to assess the engagement of the class.
- Class interaction also differs from a normal face to face situation, and it seems it's even more demanding for the teacher to create the propitious conditions for interacting. Without proper training, teachers will probably replicate the same strategies regardless of their efficiency in virtual environments.
- Time management is of utmost importance and again it seems to be an important hurdle for teachers. Virtual conditions tend to slow down many short activities, such as a warm-up.
- Regarding assessments, teachers need to create challenging tests with questions that are not easily found over the Internet because students have access to the content. Also, teachers should be flexible with any issues that the students might have during the test. Since students are at home, they are not always in a private space and might get distracted and interrupted easily.
- In-class feedback is also a challenge since it might take up too much time to do it individually.
Source: I've been interviewing university teachers in Chile since the pandemic in order to explore their perceptions of online teaching.
VENTAJAS QUE PERMITE LA INTERACIÓN ESTUDIANTE PROFESOR Y EXPLORAR MUCHOS DE LOS OBJETOS DE APRENDIZAJE.
DESVENTAJAS: CON CONTAR CON UN DISPOSITIVO ADECUADO Y OTRA LA CARENCIA DEL SERVICIO DE INTERNET, DE MANERA MUY PARTICULAR PARA AQUELLOS ESTUDIANTES QUE NO RESIDEN
I think it is also important to talk about the disadvantages that teachers have, because one of the most difficult in teaching (and teleworking in general) is the difficulty to change your thinking to work mode when you are at home surrounded by the obligations of caring for your home and family. This is something that must be achieved in order to be 100% on task at the right time.
In researching this subject of "distance learning" for K-12 and online learning for college students, many of the comments made here are exactly what studies have found. Children in K-3 distance learning classes can effectively learn if a person is in the room encouraging and assisting them in understanding the activity or material. Once children are aware of their environment, 10-12 years old, they can learn in distance learning courses but only if they have been trained to adjust to learn remotely. In college, students' learning curve is dependent also on understanding how to learn remotely. Unfortunately, in Nevada, State and Schools are budget crunching and leaving many students and teachers on their own to effectively learn and teach their subjects.
My campus is opening labs and lab-related activities to take place on the campus in the fall. Protocols have been established as well as a required training video on how to deal with the pandemic while on campus!
One of the major disadvantages of e-learning is lack of evaluation, some experts on e- learning cannot prescribe or describe adequate measure to evaluate during the e- learning teaching process.
The first and most important disadvantage is pressure on eyes which can bring blindness if it's continue for a long time, second impact of radiation for all specifically children whose brain are not yet completely developed radiation can bring cancer for then in future.
They will be unable to learn social, eticate, values and culture.
One of the disadvantages of this education is the failure of the student to keep up with the education, as well as the student's lack of understanding of scientific topics correctly.
All the commented disadvantages could be relatives. Online teaching / learning are not always to offer Zoom classes and book chapters to read.
Various papers shows that online teaching could increase interactivity and motivation when the metods are not simply video classes. We can use tools like VR, interactive labs, project based learning, etc.
Obviously, this tools can be applyed in social equality context. Here in Argentina, i think that is the biggest disadvantage of the online learning: students who not have a good connectivity or notebook cannot learn.
You can read various papers about this teaching tools from the Universidad Católica de Ávila.
Online classes may not greatly benefit the Science oriented learning areas like biology, chemistry and Physics as these subjects require experimentation which may not be effective online.
In the developing countries Particularly Africa, the technological development especially network are still very low.
Online learning makes educational supervision almost impossible if not impossible.
The problem of balancing the house chores/family obligations is a challenge.
Online learning can also lead to problems understanding all students diverse needs and backgrounds as you don't always see students' expressions and dispositions in an online class. Cultural insensitivity may occur if facilitators are not trained such as in the following ways:

Lack of evaluation can be a big problem and disadvantage for elearning. But even within wordpress, it is possible to integrate evaluation tools to an elearning platform. Ofcourse it costs some time.
Hermann Gruenwald - exactly! If a student does not want to do homework and does not attend virtual collaboration sessions, in an online environment it is even harder to motivate them.
Hermann Gruenwald - It's even worse with administration at universities. Our first year students were completely lost when we moved online. Some simply gave up. Others were not sure how to study independently. And that's uni level. So I can imagine how hard it is for schoolchildren.
Most of virtual learners specially students, lacks self-motivation and time management skills. The lack of direct interaction with teachers and colleges can make them socially isolated. Inequality of electronic & telecommunication facility among people is also a significant issue.
