What are the different types of time series satellite images used for predicting the amount of production? Which software is appropriate for estimating and predicting crop yield? Specifically in developing countries where the landholding is fragmented and crop type per hectare of land is more than five and six.
Thank you Haydeer Dibs for the answers. I am planning to use SPOT NDVI images to estimate the yield per hectare for different types of crops. In this regard some use regression model and others use another algorithm. Would you please let me know some reading materials which will help me in this regard?

You may want to consider some linear indices as well. The reasons why we preferred this solution a decade ago were that there were so many non-linear steps in the processing of RS data (spectral and geometric corrections, correction for the relief, etc), so a linear model seemed to be more robust. (We also tried the decomposition of the mixed crops, but in Hungary many images are cloudy or hazy, so you often do not have the necessary temporal coverage for individual crops.) See some arguments and the processing details in Ferencz et al. 2004, available here at RG. Maybe this information (especially the considerations) can be of interest for you.
