The most important challenge is reduce the energy consumption as much as possible, and to do that you may enhance the routing duty time, lower transmitting range and more.

the extensions of the routing protocol RPL to meet various requirements in the IoT are the current routing challenges in Wireless Sensor Networks. The RPL is very complex, upgradeable "functional unit", is further developed and functionally extended. This should clearly show the added figure.
