The 5 major unit processes are chemical coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection.

However, Apart from the above-listed processes, Ozone oxidation processes such as "Combination of ozone and H2O2 in an oxidation treatment, Ozone/UV, Catalytic ozonation" have been successfully been used to treat the wastewater.

The suitability of a method for waste water treatment depends on the nature of the pollutants in the effluents. However, biosorbents such as rice husk, bargas, cassavah peels etc can come handy as they are suitable for bio sorption.
