In all books on Data Mining, used mostly in marketing research, neural networks are used as one of the most important technique (apart from multivariate analysis) in discovering unusual patterns of consumer behavior. There is plenty of books on Data Mining. Just use some google research.

Attached is a good reference citation by Dr. Athanasios Episcopos in words file. There are some books and articles that might be useful to your research on the subject.

The PDF article is an application of neural network theory in finance. The language used in this article is very accessible.

The article by Kaastra & Boyd gives a step-by-step instruction on how to construct a model under neural network theory. Cheers.
