What are the applications of neural networks in economics/econometrics? Can anybody suggest good books containing applications of neural networks in economics/econometrics?
I agree with the above. In econometrics neural networks can be used to forecasting. I recommend article "Applications of Neural Network Radial Basis Function in Economics and Financial Time Series" (Giovanis E.) and "Neural Networks Versus Econometric Models in Forecasting Inflation" (Moshiri S., Cameron N.).
Thank you Manuel. Can you suggest books/papers in this area? What are the other areas of application of neural networks? Please provide further information.
In all books on Data Mining, used mostly in marketing research, neural networks are used as one of the most important technique (apart from multivariate analysis) in discovering unusual patterns of consumer behavior. There is plenty of books on Data Mining. Just use some google research.
Attached is a good reference citation by Dr. Athanasios Episcopos in words file. There are some books and articles that might be useful to your research on the subject.
The PDF article is an application of neural network theory in finance. The language used in this article is very accessible.
The article by Kaastra & Boyd gives a step-by-step instruction on how to construct a model under neural network theory. Cheers.

Check out Leigh Tesfatsion's very informative resource page on network formation as it is treated in economics, you will find at least two relevant links:
If you want to broaden the horizon of possibilities a bit, with your existing interest in ANN, you might want to read Hal Varian's provocative and insightful article on "new tricks":
