I am using high carbon high chromium hardened steel material for pressing of powdered materials. I want to know if during use any cracks have developed in the die and punch material? What are the NDT techniques for this? The pressure being used is up to 300 bars. The die thickness is 22 mm and punch diameter is 8 mm.
I would suggest using Phase Array NDT method which is popular in the recent past. Check for the density to make sure the NDT results correlate with actual reality.
I want to do NDT by using ultrasonic or radiography techniques. But the operator has asked me whether there are any standards on acceptable crack limits to qualify these materials for reuse. I am not from mechanical side and is unaware of the standards available for such testing.
