I'm doing product research on syringe pumps for microfluidics. I was wondering what types of syringe pumps people are using for their research and how satisfied they are with their current pumps.
Are there things missing from current pumps that you would like to see? Alternatively, does anyone have a pump that they really like? If so, why?
Personaly, I think that current microfluidic control systems such as syringe, peristaltic or piston pumps are poorly adapted to the manipulation of fluid volumes in the nanoliter range, leading to long equilibration times, irreproducibility and pulsing.

Although the flow fluctuation would be problematic in low flow rate condition (~uL/hr), syringe pump is very intuitive to be used rather than pressure controller unless you use the flow sensor for feedback control.

Harnois, what kinds of volumes and range of flow ranges are you operating in? Is there a specific size of syringe or flow well you use? Also, are you working exclusively with Newtonian fluids or do you also work in non-Newtonian fluids?
Given a choice would either of you switch to a syringe pump over a pressure system if it could provide smooth flow, reproducible results, and rapid equilibration?

I have used syringe pump and pressure flow crontroler in wide range of flow rate. It is true that your flow controler must include feedback system!
In my opinion, the lowest price of syringe pump is the only one advantage of this technology!
If you choose, syringe pump, You must never work with plastic syringe, if you want to be accurate!

I am using two Era syringe pumps(NE-1000). I think it's of great quality,and I'm satisfied with it until now.
To my demands, a syringe pump with high resolution would be great. I need a stable flow in microchannel especially under a very slow velocity.

I use Harvard syringe pumps for our microfluidic applications (generally with a volumetric flow rate of 2ul/min). They have shown to be very reliable and easy to use.
Meihang He are you still using New Era Pumps? I have one, we observe some fluctuations for 200-700 uL/hr.
Anyone has employed the Fusion syringe pumps from Chemyx?
