Empty sella syndrome(ESS) is a radiological finding where spinal fluid is found within the sella . A rare disorder characterized by enlargement/malformation of the sella turcica. The sella turcica is a saddle-shaped depression located in the bone at the base of skull (sphenoid bone), in which resides the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland shrinks or becomes flattened, ESS can be found in the workup of pituitary disorders, or as an incidental finding when imaging the brain.
