Climate data is very important to agriculture. Growers plan their farm activities based on weather forecasting and historic climate data. starting from sowing date until harvesting, all plant growth stages are controlled and linked to temperature (temperature sum concept). some crops have specific low temperature requirements (chilling hours requirements) such as apple, grape..ect. which if not fulfilled, the crop will not yield or the yield will be very poor in quantity and/or quality. climate factors may also cause the spread of some plant diseases or pests. Now, what type of format and pooled climate data you need, depends on what type of work you need to do. for example when using crop growth models, each model specify the details of the climate data you need to use. when you plant to grow a certain crop in a new area, you will need a very detailed climate data to that area and probably a historic data to figure out if there a cycle of certain climate events in the area specially if your plan include fruit trees cultivation.
