Ways of connecting programmatically, scientific equipment (not for clinical diagnosis) to laboratory information systems?

I'm trying to connect a RT-qPCR machine (Applied Biosystem's StepOnePlus) to my Laboratory Information System, maybe there is some sort of API/Open Source project that is able to extract experiment data automatically. So far the only idea i have is to manually program in python, the mouse clicks to export data, then import the csv into the LIS.

Maybe someone has another idea? A less tedious one? or maybe someone knows about any open source project that deals with this kind of problems. Any idea is welcomed.
