Yes, its a very good idea, when I was in my German university, Big data was in the peek. I got a broad idea about it and later went on specializing it. Now I would say Big data alone for students will not help but if taught together with its application in different fields (Practical Knowledge) something that is very innovative.
Example:
An application such as Big data with Personal assistants such as (Alexa, Cortana, Google Assistants) - > In such a case Big data technologies can be used to mine important information find patterns that can be used to build amazing Machine Learning models. When these models together with Personal Assistants can result is Very intelligent AI systems.
One should be taught - > how to apply Big data, rather than just teaching theory and technologies.
It is a good idea to use or encourage Big data technology in higher institution of learning (HIL). Such technologies should be deployed to capture data and the application should be taught in HIL.
