I would like to see the derivatization of my polymer by 1H NMR. However, I cant see any peak. My sample becomes viscous in water (in the case of NMR it is in D2O). I did a similar test before and it worked for the previous synthesis. I dissolved 6 mg of polymer in 1.0 mL D2O. Should I dilute it again?
I think attention to the solubility of your compound is the most important for NMR so choosing the right solvent is the basis for a successful reading of spectra but If possible run at higher temperatures to deliver viscosity down since the more homogeneous the sample, the sharper will be the lines of the spectrum. yes viscosity of the solvent effect on the spectrum resolution because it may increase the relaxation time which could required for getting more resolved spectrum.
but this is useful for EPR it may not more useful in NMR.
but if you are seeing this effect then it will not surprising.
