which is better to carryout experiments virtualization or cloud computing
i want to create three VM's for a small experimental set up, in either openstack or eucalyptus while doing so i am facing lot of errors
when i do it on vm ware by creating the same scenario i am getting good results so which is better??
are the results obtained in both the scenario are same or not
Well, in both scenario result must be different because deployment of VM-WARE is only single node but on the other hand OpenStack deployed on multiple node.
So their are many constrain different in each platform which influence the performance of VM.
The two concepts can't be separate from each other since the virtualization is the foundational element of the cloud computing and helps deliver on the value of cloud computing so you can't have a cloud computing without the virtualization
Thus , you can't make comparison to choose one from them to be the best

What specifically are you trying to accomplish / do ?
Clous can mean anything from VMWARE running on someone else's hardware to software as a service and everything in between. Its a vague term that means very little except to marketeers. So back to what you are actually doing....

I think your characterization is not entirely accurate. VMWARE can be deployed on multiple nodes as is the most common deployment and "cloud" can in fact be a single node hosted in an unseen data center. So the underlying details of the infrastructure must be known to actually answer the OP's question. The details of what the workload is, must also be known. Some workloads will auto scale or are a form of atomic work which are executed on multiple hosts via an asynchronous execution platform as can be done in Amazon. The workload may be an entire OS, which is going to be confined to a given host.
virtualization vs cloud computing
Not sure why you can't get good result from using cloud computing? Think the result is also depending on what experiment you are conducting? Both virtualization & cloud computing are 2 different technologies in which some claim cloud computing evolved from / underpinning on virtualization. Cloud computing performs more than what virtualization can do e.g. if your experiment needs to include: on demand self-service, resource pooling for multi-tenant model, rapid elasticity to cater workload demand spike, measured service for charge / show back etc., then you can explore cloud computing. If you just need to quickly spin-off 3 VMs for your experimentation without the abovementioned, then virtualization like VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM etc, can be more straight forward & useful.
I agree with the sound argument of Prof. Han Ping Fung. In addition, though cloud computing is broader in its usability than virtualization, each of them has their unique strengths and abilities that need to be weighed against the study type before their selection.
The two scenarios are different and difficult to compare. What I realized in practice is that virtualization is more mature and set up a scenario with 3 VMs is easier and stable
It might be better in some other scenario as under:
When virtual machines are not responding or cannot start due to broken parent and child virtual disk dependencies.
When virtual machines are not responding or do not start due to redo logs residing on data stores that do not have free space.
When snapshot creation takes too long when specifying the memory snapshot option.
When snapshot delete or remove operations result in the vSphere or VMware Infrastructure (VI) Client timing out.
When backups fail while quiescing during a snapshot operation.
